The history of Mini dates back to 1959, whereby the British Motorcar Corporation (BMC) produced a lightweight, agile 4 passenger car born out of necessity.

The United Kingdom was subject to fuel rationing in the wake of the Suez crisis and British consumers looked for vehicles that offered optimum fuel efficiency, hence the Mini was born. The 1960’s became the decade of the Mini as new variations to the original model were fabricated. Mini’s became quite popular not only throughout Europe but America as well and in fact, the cars “mini” proportions have even been rumored to have started the fashion craze of the day, the mini skirt. Due to stricter emissions regulations, the car was pulled from the American market in 1968. In 1994, BMW acquired Mini and by 2002, the car was reitroduced to America. Thoroughly modern in every way, right down to its BMW-engineered suspension, steering and brakes, the Mini Cooper has become one of America’s most desirable small cars and is available as a hatchback, convertible or the specialized Clubman.
